HOW TO HOLD THE GARAYA AND PLUCK ITS STRINGS

Starting to play the Garaya
Sitting or standing, with a straight chest, hold the instrument arm with your left hand (placing it between your thumb and index finger) just below the two rings of the head of the arm, which supports the two strings.

-     The sound box is place just below the right breast, and it is supported by the right forearm.
-     With the Right hand, hold the pick, or simply with the aid of your index finger, strum the strings.

How to pluck the strings of the Garaya
The garaya (moloru) being a musical instrument with 2 strings, its two strings have well determined names:
-         the 1st string Sol
-         the 2nd string
Both an instrument of accompaniment and solo, playing it is particularly based on the placement of notes and not chords.  These notes mount chromatically all the way to the end of the arm and the notes are determined by tone and half tone.

The play of fingers
In playing the garaya, two fingers are used: 1 and 2
Strings are stroked in multiple ways :
-         from top to bottom
-         from bottom to top

Note : Always put more force on the first 1.  In learning to play the garaya, the most adaptable instrument is the "Hodu" ("finger"-one stringed lute), with its multiple advantages :
- Flexibility of play
- Fast adaptation
After this very beginning stage, the musician can add their left hand fingers into the mix, changing the notes by putting pressure on the strings on the arm of the instrument.
